This message is a follow-up to the other messages that have been communicated to JCV congregants about the development of mission, vision, and value statements for the congregation.

Since the early summer of 2022, a group of congregants has been working to develop the statements. The early drafts of the documents were shared with the JCV Board, there was a session with the clergy, and there were opportunities for congregant input.

At the January 2023 JCV Board meeting, the recommended final versions of the documents were presented and discussed. The final adopted documents are as follows:

MISSION STATEMENT

The Jewish Congregation of Venice (JCV) provides Venice and its surrounding communities with a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse synagogue that serves as a center for communal gathering, Jewish learning, and worship. The JCV is a congregation open to all people seeking a Jewish identity.

Our congregation embraces lifelong learning, social justice, worship, and interfaith cooperation. We share mutual friendships and a commitment to improving our community and our world.

VALUES

Our congregants are our most valued asset.

We value:

  • Inclusiveness
  • Growth: personal, spiritual, and emotional
  • Respect
  • A caring community
  • Our homeland (USA, Israel)
  • Worship
  • A Jewish presence in Venice and the surrounding area
  • Tikkun Olam (preserving/making a better world)

VISION

The Jewish Congregation of Venice will be the social, spiritual, cultural, and religious center of Jewish life in Venice and the surrounding communities. We will be a place that is continually evolving and creating our Jewish community.

These statements will be posted on our website and will be used in part as guiding principles for future actions taken by the JCV. It is expected that the statements will be revised and updated as circumstances warrant.
