Ritual Committee

Spiritual Needs of the Congregation

The Ritual Committee is an important arm of the Jewish Congregation of Venice. Its purpose is to support the clergy in providing for the spiritual needs of the congregation. The committee provides for Shabbat services on Friday evenings, occasional Havdalah and Shabbat morning services, and all festival and holiday services. It ensures that all prayer books, supplies, and materials that are necessary for worship services are available.

Members on a rotating basis are in charge of awarding aliyot and other honors that take place during services. For High Holy Day services, committee members are responsible for arranging for ushers, the assignment of aliyot and other honors and readings, and the production and collection of tickets and related matters.

The Ritual Committee works cooperatively with all other committees of the JCV when appropriate.
