To all the WOMEN OF THE JCV
Kol Isha, which means the woman’s voice, is our monthly discussion group. We began four years ago after a JCV Women’s Retreat to discuss issues that affect us as Jewish women. Our topics have ranged from Spirituality to preparing for the death of a spouse, to learning about women of the bible, and so many things in between.
We would like to open our arms to include a larger group of women from the JCV. Please join us on the last Tuesday of the month at 11:00am. We will meet in person at the JCV as well as on Zoom. While we know Zoom has its challenges, we want to include everyone. We alternately hope to be fully in person. But at this time realize that is not possible for everybody.
Our topic for February 22 is Recurring Dreams/Nightmares.
Who knows where this discussion will take us, but we would like you there!

Security Update - NEW
In light of the recent event at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, we are planning a training at the JCV. The training will be conducted in coordination with The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee and will cover situational awareness of possible threats as well as how to react to an emergency.
Rather than hold it as a Zoom, we intend to hold it when most congregants feel comfortable assembling back at the JCV. We will make Zoom available for those who cannot get to the JCV. Until then, please be aware that we have armed guards contracted through the Venice Police Department at each Shabbat service as well as at special events.
If you have any comments concerning our security, please contact Eli at 315-591-2139 or by email at nudge1947@gmail.com.

Men’s Club News - NEW
Last Sunday our deep sea fishing trip was agreed upon. Weather permitting, it will be February 16 on the charter boat Maimee Too out of Englewood. There are still spots available–the cost is $180.00 per person, all inclusive (bait, tackle, water, soda, and tip). The only thing to bring is food.
Our next card game is February 23 at 7:00pm at the JCV.
March 6, arrangements have been made for a sightseeing and nature trip aboard LeBarge. Sailing from Sarasota at 2:00pm and returning at 4:00pm, this trip is open to the congregation and friends. The ship is large, wide, and has all the comforts of home. There is both indoor and outdoor seating on two decks with food and drink available for purchase on board. There is limited time to make reservations; final tally due by February 20 for this event. Price for this trip is $32.00 per person.
The weekly golf and pickleball outings are still going strong.

Update on The JCV Food Festival
December 2021
Dear Congregants,
Another year and we are again facing a huge increase in COVID-19 and now variants’ cases in Sarasota County. Because we feel the health and safety of our congregants is of the utmost importance, we are modifying the 2022 Food Festival to a preorder only event.
We are continuing with our 2022 raffle. You have already received your tickets and it is important you return the money and stubs as soon as possible. We are depending on this fundraiser to make up for some of the loss from the in-person event being canceled.
The Advance Food Order Form is attached and pickup is scheduled for February 12 and 13. Feel free to copy the form and distribute it to your friends and neighbors. The money raised will all go to the operating fund of the JCV. This may help to defer or lessen any future dues increase.
We are including the 2022 Recipe and Resources Ad Book Order Form with this letter. It is critical that you give the form to everyone you do business with. In this way we can maximize our Ad Book revenue. The Ad Book will be included in each take-out order and put on the JCV website.
We are also including the 2022 Recipe and Resources Ad Book Order Form for recognitions honoring your family members, pets, and special occasions. Fill out this form as soon as you can and follow the directions as to where and how to send in the completed form.
Also attached are the Volunteer Schedule and Sign Me Up form. Please volunteer for any position you can.
For more information, you can go to the JCV Website, select “connect,” then select “Food Festival,” or click HERE.
We are determined to make lemonade out of lemons. We need your help to raise funds for the JCV so we may continue being a positive force in all our lives. Thank you for your support.
Harvey Cohen
JCV President

Scroll below the Food Festival poster for the links to all of the available forms.
Beat the Crowds
The JCV’s 27th Annual Jewish Food Festival is back but different this year due to COVID-19 and its variants. The festival will not be in person this February, so we are asking that you place your food order in advance. Place your orders by January 31, 2022, so we can have everything made and ready to be picked up. Designated times for pick up are Saturday, February 12, 2022, between noon and 3:00pm; or Sunday, February 13, 2022, 10:00am to 1:00pm. Advance Food Ordering is available now, so reserve early. A great food option idea for your “Big Game” party. See order form below or online HERE. We hope to return in 2023 with a full Jewish Food Festival!
Space Still Available in the Food Festival Ad Book
Support the 27th Annual Jewish Food Festival with an ad in the 27th edition of the Food Festival Recipes and Resources Ad Book. Space is still available on the Grandparents’ page, Pets’ page, and Personal ad page. If all members buy an ad to acknowledge a grandchild, pet, someone special, or a special milestone, this will greatly help our congregation. See the form below or online.
Volunteer Opportunities
Without volunteers, the Jewish Food Festival is impossible to hold. We are hoping you contribute to the 2022 Festival in one of two ways, with your time or a monetary contribution – or both!
Fill out and return the Sign Me Up form (see poster below) ASAP to the JCV Office or electronically send to Mardi Skoegard, Volunteer Captain, at mardiskoegard@comcast.net. For more information, call Mardi at 941-882-2875.
Many volunteer opportunities are currently available prior to the Jewish Food Festival on Saturday, February 12, and Sunday, February 13, 2022; see cooking schedule posters below.
Email Mardi Skoegard at mardiskoegard@comcast.net with a list of the days and tasks where you want to volunteer. Just come and you will be given something to do. All kitchen jobs require a hat and apron and COVID-19 VACCINATION. Feel free to bring your own kitchen tools. Start time is 9:30am. Schedules subject to change. Come when you can and stay as long as you can. Someone will be available to teach you.

JCV Policy Update as of January 12, 2022
The JCV is now open for activities and services under the following guidelines:
- Anyone who enters the JCV is required to be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination. This includes congregants, guests, employees, visitors, vendors, and others.
- While inside the JCV, everyone is required to properly wear a face mask at all times. All Friday evening services are to be both in person and via zoom.
- The sanctuary will be set up for both regular seating and socially distanced seating for those who prefer that seating arrangement.
- For now, there will not be any oneg shabbat offered after a service.
- The JCV President has the authority to make specific decisions about the status of what may take place at the JCV, given the fluctuation of the COVID-19 environment and the needs of individualized issues at the JCV.
- Committee meetings, education sessions, and other events are permitted, given the above guidelines.
- As always, individuals should assume their own comfort level in participating at events at the JCV.
- Congregants are asked to comply with the latest CDC guidelines should they be positive for COVID-19 and any variants prior to returning to any function at the JCV.
- When there is an event at the JCV, the committee in charge will record who attended the event.

Thank you,
Harvey Cohen, President
Don’t Forget to Send in Your Proof of Vaccination Information
The Board of Directors is taking precautions to protect our members as much as possible during the ongoing COVID-19 situation. While there is no perfect solution to COVID-19 challenges, the Board has focused on what they believe will be the most effective way to protect congregants. The JCV cannot ensure an absolute and secure situation during these uncertain and challenging times.
The JCV Board voted to have all congregants show proof of vaccination for future admittance to the building. We will enter this information into our database so you will only have to show it one time. The board thanks you for your cooperation in this procedure. If you have questions, feel free to contact any JCV Board member.
We will continue documenting proof of vaccination information so that as we reopen, we have current info.
Two simple ways for congregants to send in proof of vaccination:
- Send a photocopy or scanned copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card to the following email: vaxthejcv@gmail.com.
- You can also make a copy and send it via the US Post Office to the JCV (600 N. Auburn Rd., Venice, FL 34292).
All copies will be shredded once registered in our database.
